Description: County: Hampshire Grant description and date: alien subsidy granted by Parliament 1440 Jan 14 x Feb 24 Document description: Alien poll tax inquest and commission for the first collection, file of 2 mems. Includes names of individuals. The commission orders the justices of the peace to hold inquisitions for this tax throughout Hampshire, while the attached inquest is that held for Christchurch and Ringwood hundreds. A note on the dorse of the commission states that it was delivered, together with thirteen inquisitions. The remaining twelve inquisitions have evidently become detached, and now form the pieces in E 179/173/98, 99 and 100.
