Award, commuting for a corn rent tithes and dues payable to the Rector of Grappenhall in Grappenhall and Latchford, by Thomas White of Hale, co.Lanc., commissioner

Description: Recites the Private Act 7/8 Geo.IV c.21 1826/7. William Hall of Warrington held the advowson, Rev. John Burnett Stuart was rector, and Thomas White was appointed commissioner. In lieu of tithe a corn rent was to be estimated by a 10 year average, to provide not less than £450 payable to the rector, excluding surplice fees and fees for baptisms, marriages, burials and churchings. States existing arrangement for payment of tithe: 1 factories and other messuages coloured blue on map and marked 'X' on schedule were exempt from tithe. 2 there was a modus throughout the parish of 1½d. per cow and calf or calving cow in lieu of tithe milk and calves, 1d. per barren cow pastured in the parish, 4d. per colt foaled, but Reddish Hall estate and new enclosed lands were not included in this modus, and are coloured yellow on map and marked 'A' in schedule. 3 there was a modus in lieu of tithe hay in respect of Butland or Upland Meadowing at ¼d. per c.a., coloured green on map and marked 'B' in schedule. The schedule apportioning the corn rent states quantity of tenement, description, tenement, number nos.1-193 in red on map, owner, occupier, annual sum payable, quantity of wheat governing future payments. Wit: Joseph Lee, John Wilson, William Hall all on behalf of John Smith Barry, esq., Josh. Wagstaff of Warrington, attorney, Robt. Kellett, clerk to W. S. Hall, land surveyor. Endorsed: memorandum that the award was proclaimed at Grappenhall church by William Jeffs, curate, 25 May 1828, and at Latchford chapel by Thomas Byth, curate, 10 Sep.1828.
