Mr Stansfeld to Josephine Butler
Description: Written from Stoke Lodge. Reports on various people connected with the work: 'not sanguine' about George Trevelyan. He rather fears getting Manning because of strong Protestant feeling against him; better leave him till we get some hold on the Church of England. Harcourt Johnstone ought to help us there. What about the Bishops; Banks reports Salisbury, Lichfield and Exeter as sound. Have made list of following MPs and ex MPs as possible speakers. Thinks W Rathbone might be persuaded to speak at Liverpool. He is for 'the same law for women as for men'. Hopes to be 'the best abused man in England within another 12 months.
