Probate (Chichester) of will (15 May 1730) of John Gratwick of Blakes in Ashurst, esq.

Description: Bequeaths to his wife the use of his household goods, linen and plate (the latter is to be divided between his s. John and two daughters on her death). Devises to his w., for life, messuage, barn and about 4a. land called Blakes with the use of 2 cows. Bequeaths to his two daughters, £5 each. Devises to his s. John, his manor, messuage, farm and lands called Bracklesham Farm, and lands called Burchen Woods in occ. of William Harding in West Wittering and Birdham, and his messuage, barns, buildings, farm and lands called Priors Bine Farm in West Grinstead in occ. of John Kutley and which is leasehold land held of Magdalen College in the University of Oxford. Bequeaths to the poor of Ashurst, 40s., to his servants 10s. each, and the residue of his goods are to go to his s. John. Appoints his s. John as exor.
