Letter from Kate Hornby, 8 Belvedere Street, Ryde, to Florence Oglander, The Crown Hotel, Lyndhurst, Hants
Description: "On the chance of this finding you at Lyndhurst tomorrow, I write a line to say that dear little Denys and his nurse duly turned up today before 3 o'clock and he staid till 5 and was very happy, poor little fellow! We encouraged nurse to go off and do some shopping escorted by Brun and Collett, and in the mean time we entertained Denys, Blanch and I and he was as good as gold the whole time. Then at 4 o'clock we had tea in the diningroom at which nurse also assisted, and Denys made a right good meal, and finally departed in high spirits, well wrapt up in a big cloak and I hope no harm will come to him. He brought in a basket of flowers and some french beans, all of which are most acceptable. Thank you for them so much! I loved having him, poor little fellow, and he showed us with great pride a beautiful [...] he had had from "Grandfather"!! and that is how I know that you are to be at Lyndhurst tomorrow! It has been a very fine and hot day here, and I don't think he can catch cold? [Zelma ?] B. and I had luncheon with Lady Daly. Miss Knox made the fourth and afterwards B. played accompanement with Lady Daly's cello, and I walked over with Fetherstonhaugh to tea, where B. joined me later on! She is now sight seeing with Helen Boger so she is not idling! Capital account of little Pet's boy - he is now we hope quite out of the wood - such relief for everybody! If you are coming on Wednesday I fear we shant see you and on Thursday afternoon Mrs. Groves(?) and a daughter are coming over in the afternoon, and B. is playing bridge with Mrs. Davies, but if you don't mind Mrs. G. and her daughter, and will come to tea about 4.30, I shall be so glad. Mrs. Perrott was here today and saw Denys" (107/203)
