Description: H.G.W. (at Hyde House) to Sir J.E.S. informing him that the writer and his wife are not to go to Mexico after all though the Foreign Office is not dissatisfied with him, explaining that 10 days ago Planta told him the Cabinet was recalling Hervey from Mexico as they were dissatisfied with his reports and angry at his guarantee of a loan in the name of the Government without authority, and the writer was asked to accompany the new First Commissioner, agreed to do so and made his preparations but on the 10th was told he was not to go but to give all possible assistance to Morier the new Commissioner, describing the help the writer gave to Morier as to information, equipment, etc., the desire of Morier that writer should go with him and his promise to do so if asked and notification to F.O. of this, that this offer was refused even though Morier knows no Spanish and the writer is rather relieved as he is sure he will be given employment soon, and hoping he and Em can visit Sir John next month
