Description: 1. Myles Troughton of Lippin, Bewley [Beaulieu] co. Hampshire, gent 2. William Shaw of Lindall, Furness, co. Lancaster, yeoman Recitals:- lease obtained by (1) from John, Duke of Montague of royalty of all iron mines in manors of Dalton and Plain Furness - Desire by (2), having been encouraged "by judicious persons skilled and experienced in mineralls" that iron one could be found on his customary lands at Lindal, to search for it and to be given liberty to do so by (1) - (2) To employ able and experienced workmen to dig for ore and "inspect the diligent working thereof", to pay Duke of Montague 1s. 6d. royalty on each ton of ore and allow (1) to take upon the Pitt Banke two-thirds of the ore produced, paying two-thirds of the cost of mining it and of the royalty Witnesses: Wm. Phillipson, John Bisbrown, Wm. Stockdale
