SMALL PROPERTIES, P’S. SHALFLEET, CALBOURNE AND FRESHWATER

Description: For the sake of convenience the deeds for a series of very small, disparate purchases in the West Wight have been grouped together. Here will be found documents for a cottage near Freshwater church, JER/HBY/59/1, two strips in Wellow Common Field and rights of commonage at Westover, JER/HBY/59/3-5, and a piece of former glebe land at Westover called Billingham, JER/HBY/10-11, all made by the trustees under Leonard Thomas Worsley Holmes's will; for a field in Shalfleet called Westbrooks Butt, JER/HBY/59/2, bought by William Henry Ashe a'Court and for a small strip of land in Wellow, JER/HBY/59/6 and an even smaller piece of land at Freshwater Gate, JER/HBY/59/7-9, both bought by William Henry Ashe a'Court. The documents are grouped as a single bundle and arranged into six distinct series as described above. All of the Shalfleet purchases are identified by their tithe reference numbers while the piece of land at Freshwater Gate is covered by a plan endorsed on JER/HBY/59/7. Billinghams and the cottage at Freshwater can be identified in JER/HBY/176/3. There are no separate surveys or leases.
