Description: G. Hawkins, Lyndhurst. Have waited on the timber merchants and their answer is that they had no timber agreeable the meetings required, nor could they tell where to procure some, so could not fix a price for streight oak for Portsmouth. At the prices now given in the contract, they would not purchase timber for the Service but if the Board would give proper encouragement they would try to procure what quantity is wanting and contract for it.
