Description: Folios 38-39. Letter from W Sloane Stanley thanking the Home Secretary for supplying a police constable to look into arson cases in the neighbourhood of Paultans [Exbury, Hampshire] and states that a man has now been committed for trial. He states that it is difficult to select a constable/tythingman who is not connected to those committing the crime. He also states the crimes are not due to the workings of the New Poor Law but by 'the idle + others that will not work. [and are mainly in the] New Forest'.
