Description: Folio 188: Commissioner Sir Richard Beach, Portsmouth. Is sending copies of contracts for the building of boats. There is so much work for hoys that it would be better and cheaper to have hoys and lighters of their own. The Isabella could be made into a fine vessel if the Board agrees. They are in great need of Shipwrights, if the Board would agree to pay an allowance to the men on board the ships in port, they would be a great help. He has sent the pay books to Mr. Lydall, if he is to be employed in paying the ships the work in the Yard will suffer. He has provided the Sopley frigate, John Wilmott, Master, a merchantman bound for the Mediterranean, with an anchor, after the promise from Mr. Lambert, the owner, for a new one to replace it in the stores. He has ordered the Master Shipwright and Master Attendant to survey the Foresight, the Captain reporting she is very leaky and not fit to sail to the West Indies. The Monmouth is also in need of repair. Lists 13 named ships which are waiting for refit. The Owner's Love is not worth repairing. The Bredah, Warspite, Cambridge and Edgar are to be launched.
