Description: Folios 441-443. To: The Local Government Act Office. From: George Bailey, Clerk to the Luton Local Board, Luton [Bedfordshire]. Subject Matter: Letter referring to the Luton Local Board proposing to acquire more land for filtering beds and sluices, due to the rapidly increasing population of this district, which according to Bailey seems to double itself every 12 years. Bailey explains that certain land close to the deodorising works will be put up for sale shortly which the Board wishes to purchase, and he encloses a sketch of the position of the lots and the deodorising works. He considers the opportunity for purchasing this land will not happen again and therefore asks for sanction to borrow money to enable them to purchase this land.
