Description: Folios 295-299. To: The General Board of Health. From: George Bailey, Clerk to the Luton Local Board, Luton [Bedfordshire]. Subject Matter: Letter referring to the recommendation of Mr Dickens that further costs and particulars are required of the intercepting sewer to be constructed at Luton. Bailey refers to the section of line laid down on the plan marked 'A', which is in the possession of the General Board, but encloses an estimate of the cost of the works together with the surveyors report. Bailey states that the Luton Local Board is in negotiation with the Marquis of Bute for the purchase of land for the deodorising works and as they do not yet know the price, they cannot include this in their estimate. He adds that the brick making season is rapidly passing and it is therefore important that the contracts should be made as early as possible, as the bricks would have to be made for that purpose and the parties are waiting to make them.
