Description: Folios 552-553. To: Home Secretary. From: Terry and Robinson, Bradford, [Yorkshire]. A letter regarding surcharges levied on the Idle Local Board, [which the Home Secretary has previously confirmed but has recently moved to remit, a course of action that Terry and Robinson's clients are opposed to]. Terry and Robinson say they have received a letter stating that the reply to their petition in opposition to the remittance of the surcharges from J M Barret [solicitor to the Idle Local Board] is now before the Home Secretary, who will come to a final decision. Terry and Robinson remark that they have not seen a copy of Barret's reply as they expected to, and that in consequence of waiting for this they have asked their 'friends in Parliament' to defer brining questions to the House on the matter. Terry and Robinson state that if the Home Secretary is to follow his previous course of action [to confirm the surcharges] then they have no wish to have further correspondence than necessary; if, however, the Home Secretary is to overturn his decision [and remit the surcharges] they again request that another inquiry be held into the matter.
