Description: Folios 480-481. To: Home Secretary. From: Robert Sutcliffe, Idle, [Yorkshire]. A letter. Sutcliffe says it has been several weeks since the Home Secretary confirmed surcharges of £435 made against members of the Idle Local Board by the District Auditor for payments he disallowed in their account pertaining to the promotion of a petition in the House of Commons. However, Sutcliffe says, the Idle Local Board seem to have made no move to pay such surcharges. He asks if the Local Board are to be permitted to disregard the law and the judgments of the District Auditor and the Home Secretary in this manner.
