Description: Folios 119-123. To: The Local Government Act Office. From: J Hibbert, Clerk to the Hyde Local Board, Hyde, [Cheshire]. A letter respecting the auditing of the Hyde Board's accounts and their disagreements with W Roberts, their auditor. Hibbert, on behalf of the Hyde Board, replies to several allegations made against the Board by Roberts. The Hyde Board did not inform Roberts of their establishment, and therefore need for auditing, because they thought he would be informed in an official capacity, Hibbert says. Hibbert goes on to defend and explain the Hyde Board's system of accounting for their Treasurer's accounts, which Roberts has raised concerns about. Hibbert rejects Roberts' assertion that the Hyde Board have not complied with his request for changes in their accounting practice, saying that these were only suggestions, which the Board have welcomed. Hibbert also again, despite Roberts' justification, accuses Roberts of unnecessarily delaying the audits of the Hyde Board's accounts. Hibbert concludes by hoping for reconciliation and friendly relations between the Board and Roberts, inviting the audit of the accounts in July and stating that Hyde hopes to soon become a municipal borough.
