Description: Folios 33-37. To: The Local Government Act Office. From: William Toy, Clerk to the Hurst Local Board, Park Parade, Ashton-under-Lyme, [Lancashire]. A letter and a copy of a printed loan sanction for the borrowing of £1000, granted to the Hurst Local Board by the Poor Law Board on 31 October 1863. Toy writes to request that the Office, under the Local Government Act 1858, will sanction the Hurst Board's borrowing of £1480 for the purchase of land, the erection of offices, and paving works. Toy says that the Poor Law Board have already sanctioned the Hurst Board to borrow £1000 for these works (sending the enclosure as proof) but that more money is needed. Toy's letter also furnishes the Office with details of the amount the Hurst Board have expended on public works, their existing debt, estimates for the costs of the various portions of the work, and the estimated rateable value of the Hurst District.
