Description: Mr Sutherland, Purveyor, Lyndhurst. Has agreed with the Officers of the Forest that they will meet the Navy Officers on the 1st of December to discuss the setting out of the trees. Has also considered the proposal to strip the bark off the oaks in order to fell them in the winter and has found little objection apart from the Deputy Surveyor of the Forest, who will not comply unless commanded to by his Master. Has therefore written to Mr Wither. The Deputy feels that the process will be difficult and dangerous, and the costs of doing it will outweigh the value of the bark. He is convinced that winter felled timber is preferable to spring felled, but opinion is divided regarding the stripping of the bark.
