Description: 1 individual petition (Elizabeth Hale, convict's wife and undersigned by 69 people, from the New Unity Benefit Society, Tewksbury, Gloucestershire) on behalf of William Hale of Tewksbury, convicted at the Gloucester Summer Assizes on 16 August 1832, for stealing from a dwelling house - theft of 39 sovereigns from the New Unity Benefit Society. There is also a covering letter from Mr Dowdeswell, MP of Pull Court, Tewksbury enclosing petition dated 11 September 1832. Grounds for clemency: has a wife and 4 small children who are destitute and in great distress, previous good character - hardworking, industrious and inoffensive, has been a member of the New Unity Benefit Society for 13 years and has an unsullied reputation.
