BROOCH 38788

Description: Copper-alloy Langton Down brooch; incomplete. The missing hinged pin was held within a tubular case; the iron axis bar is intact. The bow has a squared top and is straight-sided tapering slightly to missing lower bow and foot. The detail of the decoration is obscured by corrosion, but there are two horizontal mouldings across the forward edge of the head and there are ridges running down each side. Badly abraded and pitted surface. L: 31.5 W: 6-24 T: 1.5 (cf. Examples from Canterbury (Mackreth 1995, 973 nos. 86-9 fig. 407).
