HOOKED TAG 265813

Description: Early Post-Medieval (16th century) silver gilt openwork sexfoil hooked tag, now in two pieces. It weighs 4.81g and measures 28.08mm in length and 19.31mm in max.width. At the centre of the design is a brambled boss, projecting from which are three equidistant thistles. Interspersed between these are three trefoil-like projections. A curved arc joins each of the six decorations to the next, creating circular openwork spaces between (c.1.5mm in diameter), around the central brambled boss. To the reverse are a separately soldered wire loop and hook, the hook projecting from beneath a thistle. Gilding covers the entire front surface and is apparent on the reverse, but not on the loop.
