BROOCH 217537
Description: Incomplete and bent Roman copper alloy Strip Bow brooch missing half its axis bar and its pin, with the lower bow bent forwards to meet the head. It weighs 2.5g.
The wings are 15mm wide and curl behind to secure an aixs bar. A V-shaped cut between the wings would have enabled a pin to be attached to the axis bar.
The bow is apparantly plain with slightly raised edges both sides. It narrows from 8.9mm below the wings to 3.4mm at the bottom. The catchplate is now rather bent but is short in height and long in width (7.6x8.6mm).
The bent brooch is 28.5mm long and was probably originally c.56mm in length.
1st century.
