Description: Incomplete copper alloy Roman Hod Hill type brooch, missing the shank of its pin and the curl of its catchplate.
The iron axis bar remains in corroded state inside the rolled-forward wings, 12.3mm in width. To the reverse the (copper alloy) head of the pin is held in position by the corroded axis.
The body of the brooch is decorated with seven horizontal ridges. Below the wings the brooch narrows (to 5.8mm wide) and then expands again to its widest point at the middle, 14.2mm. This middle part has a large crack running from one edge. Below the body narrows again, to the foot, 3.4mm wide.
The foot is decorated with another three horizontal ridges and narrows to 1.6mm wide at its base. A little of the catchplate remains to the reverse.
The brooch is 42.8mm in length and weighs 3.12g.
