BROOCH 112645

Description: Copper-alloy Late Iron Age to early Roman Langton Down type brooch. Only a small section of one of the cylindrical wings survives so that it does not extend beyond the head of the brooch. The other wing is almost complete with only the end missing (length: 21.8mm, diameter: 5.7mm). There is a slot between the wings to accommodate the hinged pin leaving a U-shaped recess in the centre of the wings. The gently angled, wide, flat reeded bow tapers slightly to the foot where it is squared off (7.75-15.3mm long and 2.5-3.6mm wide). The reeding is formed of four raised longitudinal ridges in the centre of the bow, leaving a plain border on either side. The remains of the catchplate are visible on the reverse of the lower bow and foot.
