Bramshaw Hill

Description:

Bramshaw Hill House stood in Bramshaw Park, just south of what is marked on the Drivers’ map as Mr Hibbert’s land, possibly on what is marked as an ‘incroachment’ (i) on that map. One F. A. Daniell was living there in 1820 (The Times, 18 Nov. 1820). Bowden-Smith (p. 37) remembers it as the house that belonged to Mr Shute, before Mr and Mrs Phillipson from c.1860 to 1880, after which it was let. Phillipson created the lake. While Mr and Mrs Sullivan were living there, the front of the house fell down, because of the effect of the lake on the water table. Fortunately the occupants, and servants, were out at the time.
