Jos. Hollis of Lyndhurst to Commissioner Richard Hughes, Portsmouth. The Surveyor General of HM woods …
Description: Jos. Hollis of Lyndhurst to Commissioner Richard Hughes, Portsmouth. The Surveyor General of HM woods has written to his Deputy to inform him there will be a warrant from the Lords of the Treasury for the sale of timber in this forest. List of the timber concerned. Cannot believe that their Lordships and the Surveyor have forgotten there is an Act of Parliament and a Navy Officer belonging to the Forest whose duty it is to prevent any timber being sold that is fit for Naval use. We are to begin marking trees on the waste of the Forest immediately which will not be done until the warrant arrives and is entered in the Court Rolls. Opine it should not be cut in New Park as all that is fit has already been cut this year, but should be felled on the waste of the Forest.
